Your host Rainer has been passionate about astronomy (not astrology!!) since his early youth. At the age of 10, he received his first small telescope from his parents and studied the night sky in Germany with it. Only much later did he treat himself to his first really nice telescope – the electronically controlled Celestron 8 – and a few years later, he took it to the island of Sal. The plan to conduct regular star tours had to be postponed to focus on the main tasks – renting out apartments and organising beach volleyball camps.

Currently, fixed stargazing sessions are planned for the participants of the beach camps. The project “Sunset Picnic with Astronomy” at Punta Preta has only been conducted once so far but is planned to take place two to three times a year in the coming years: there will be Cape Verdean snacks and drinks while we watch the sunset together, accompanied by music from the two best voices on the island: Sylivia and Lizender Medina.

As soon as it gets dark enough, there is the opportunity to observe mainly the moon and some planets with two large C 8 telescopes as well as with numerous smaller telescopes and binoculars. In doing so, Rainer explains to the guests in a very vivid manner how our current worldview has developed.

For true astronomy fans, tours to the island of Fogo. planned: In the accommodation Casa Marisa 2.0 in the middle of Cha de Caldeiras, there are some of the best stargazing conditions in the entire Atlantic region.
