Rainer – the founder of CaboLibre discovered Sal in 2006 – almost 20 years too late as he had already read an article about the secret windsurf paradise in a German windsurf magazine in 1986. It proved to be as good as described and so Rainer chose this island as his second home: the reason was not only the prefect wind and wave conditions but also the wonderful beach in front of Hotel Morabeza. There he also found a run down volleyball court at which some Capeverdian youngsters gathered to play together every afternoon. Since Rainer was a regular player in Germany and enjoyed the games with the locals, he started to bring all the necessary beach volleyball equipment from his home whenever he came there on holidays.
During the last twenty years Rainer got more and more involved in the volleyball development on the island of Sal – especially after he decided to give up his career as a teacher and spend most of his time on Sal by renting holiday apartments, and organizing beachvolleyball camps exactly at the same spot in front of Hotel Morabeza.
Until today we had only few beachvolleyball camps here but each of them was a big success and the participants enjoyed them very much. We are happy to organize our camps according to your needs and expectations. We can offer a good selection of professional coaches for supporting you reaching your personal aims in the sport and we will help you to have a wonderful experience with all the other activities that are possible on the beautiful island of Sal.
In 2023 Rainer got the opportunity to coach the male national team of Capeverde at the Olympic qualifications in Dakar/Senegal. For the young team of Ivan Christian and Admilson it was the first international tournament. They had some good games after an unfortunate loss in the quarter final they landed on 5th place.
Lu and Janice – the female national Team even won the competition and qualified for the African Championships in Marocco.
In 2024 the Brasilian Marcio Araujo (one of the best beachvolleyball players ever) signed a contract to empower the beachvolleyball of Caboverde and since then he is the official coach of both national teams. Whenever Marcio is on the island of Sal, he stays in one of the Cabolibre Apartments. We also plan future beachcamps with him as the main coach.
